Singer Jessica Simpson appears to be gaining some weight, based on recent concert photos.
Onlookers at a Jan. 24 “Chili Cook-off” concert in Pembroke Pines, Fla., were surprised to see Simpson, 28, looking chunky in a white tank top and high-waisted mom jeans.
The 5’3″ Jessica worked out and dieted like crazy a few years ago to get in shape for her role in the 2005 flop The Dukes of Hazzard (where she played Daisy Duke, who runs around in short-shorts). But her weight has fluctuated regularly over the years.
Simpson, who has admitted she battles body-image issues, lost weight a few years ago on the high-protein, low-carb Atkins Diet, but says it just wasn’t for her long-term. “Atkins really messed me up mentally,” she said. “I was so starved for carbs, I binged on them.” Jessica has also admitted that sweets are a major weakness. “I try to stay away from sugars as much as I can, which is hard,” she says.
Simpson confessed in September that she’s a stress eater and blames her career for her sudden weight gain. “I’m a nervous eater, and this tour has made me a nervous wreck,” she said.
“Curves are better,” Simpson added. “I don’t get the whole rail thing. It’s not good for your heart, it’s not good for your mind. It’s emotionally destructive, it really is.”
A friend says Jessica is just fine with her heftier figure. “She’s done depriving herself and missing out on life just to fit into a size 2 jeans,” a friend recently told OK! magazine. “She doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with the way she looks.”
One reason the singer is feeling more comfortable is because of her happy love life. Jessica is currently dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
“Whether she’s catching one of Tony’s games, or just hanging out with him, she’ll throw back a couple of beers, eat some pizza and just have fun,” the singer’s friend says. “She is just in a different place than she used to be and her weight gain is a reflection of that.”
Jessica was previously married to former boy-bander Nick Lachey.

The avid animal lover that she is, Katherine Heigl paid a visit at the Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control on Monday afternoon (January 26).
Accompanied by her mother, the “Grey’s Anatomy” cutie cuddled with a few of the pooches, as she reportedly made the appearance to promote pet adoption.
Speaking about the issue in the past, Miss Heigl believes that pet dog seekers should always refer to animal rescue before going to breeders.
“I do understand people going to breeders, but what you cannot do is get a dog from a puppy mill,” she said.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline: BBQ Buddies
Given their tumultuous past, it’s good to see that Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have been able to overcome the drama and remain friends, especially since they have to children together.
And if Sunday afternoon’s barbecue at the “Gimme More” songstress’ new house is any indication, relations between these two just continue to get better.
According to a report, K-Fed headed over to Britney’s new Calabasas, California pad on Sunday around noon to pick up sons Sean Preston (3) and Jayden James (2) from their weekend visit with Brit Brit.
But when he went to the door, Spears’ father Jamie invited Kevin inside for a down home barbecue cookout. Never one to say no to free food, K-Fed ended up staying until around 5pm when he returned home with the boys.
Mischa Barton’s Wild 23rd Birthday Bash
Celebrating with a belated 23rd birthday party, Mischa Barton headed over to Caviar Kaspia restaurant in Paris, France, for a night of friend-filled fun on Monday (January 26).
Being congratulated by a guest list including burlesque beauty Dita Von Teese, along with Ali Mahdavi, Irina Lazareanu, Gianbattista Valli and Oliver Theyskens, Miss Barton seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself.
The former “OC” starlet, whose actual birthday was this past Saturday (January 24), stumbled about while laughing with her pals, later bowing out candles on a cake before locking lips with a female friend.
Earlier in the day, Mischa made her way over to the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2009 show, where Dita was also among the guests at the Paris Fashion Week runway show.
Fergie & Josh Jet Back from the Bahamas
For newlyweds Fergie and Josh Duhamel, when one honeymoon ended, another began.
Back from whirlwind global adventure that took them to the Maldives, an island nation near Sri Lanka, and then the Bahamas, the happy couple arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday looking refreshed and tanned.
First stop on their itinerary: the Maldives. There for a week, beginning Jan. 12, the two jump-started their honeymoon with a relaxing vacation at the One & Only Reethi Rah Resort, where they stayed in a luxury Grand Water Villa with a private pool and veranda overlooking the beach. According to sources, the two enjoyed daily activities on the island, including snorkeling and water skiing.
Then it was off to the Bahamas!
Fergie, 33, actually had to mix work with play – the singer took part in the MJCI Charity Celebration Galas at the island’s Atlantis Resort.
Her hubby was equally busy: Duhamel, 36, was spotted on the links and teeing off for the charitable Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational tournament.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: SAG Sweethearts
Making a much-awaited trip to the red carpet, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were arm-in-arm at the 2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (January 25).
The “Mr and Mrs Smith” co-star couple mingled with guests and posed for pictures, with Ang sporting a loose fitting Max Azria gown, before making their way inside for the night’s ceremony.
During the evening, both Brad and Angelina are nominated for awards – Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Actress, respectively.
Pitt, 45, finds himself nominated for his portrayal of Benjamin Button in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” while Angelina’s bid comes from her role of Christine Collins in “Changeling”.
